Deuteronomy 4:1,5-9; Matthew 5:17-19
Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not kill. Do not commit adultery. Love your neighbour as yourself. Love and pray for those who persecute you. Forgive everyone who has caused you pain. Putting to practice these laws is what it means to follow the Lord. It is not easy but it is life giving. It is not enough to know the law but to follow it. We may know all the details and information about the importance of a clean environment or a clean room, but if we do not clean our room or our environment we will live in a filthy world. No one gains knowledge by having a library of books but by reading the books. The Lord will not change His laws or His directions because we feel they are difficult. It is only the truth that can set us free even if we desire or choose to hear or live a lie.
We can only follow God’s laws if we have a deep love for and trust in God. We have to believe that following God’s laws will bring meaning and happiness to our lives. Imagine for an instance the result of following the law: you feel freedom, you forgive everyone, you tell the truth at all times, you have no fears, you have deep peace, you never steal, you have a heart big enough to love and pray for everyone. How does it feel to be truly free? How does it feel to have no one to hate? How does it feel to be afraid of nothing? How does it feel to love and to be love? Would you want to experience this? I know I would. So, If you want to know and experience this, then follow the law. God’s law is life giving. May God bless you all as you follow God’s laws today!
