Lent – Day 21: I am like a cypress ever green, all your fruitfulness comes from me.
Hosea 14:2-10, Mark 12:28 – 34
Where does your joy come from? Where does your success come from? Where does your peace come from? Where does your happiness come from? If any of these comes from things or persons, then you have every reason to be afraid and to be worried. No human being or things can give your lasting peace, joy, happiness or success. Everything we have that comes from human beings or things will end and fade.
The Lord reminds us through the words of Prophet Hosea that He is like a cypress ever green, and that all our fruitfulness come from Him. We should never allow ourselves to forget this. God is the source of all our joys, peace, happiness and success. All these are His gifts. We get all the gifts that adorn our lives from God’s never-exhaustive storehouse.
When we love God with all, and not some of our heart, with all, and not some of our mind and with all, not some of our strength, and when we remain connected with Him, we will become like an ever-flowing stream, like an ever-green cypress. If God becomes our everything and our deepest love, then our joys, our peace, our happiness and our successes will never end, because our fruitfulness will flow from the Lord.
The key to a meaningful life is by loving God with all that we are and by loving our neighbours as ourselves. We do this by staying connected to God. May God keep us ever connected to Him.
